In the fast-paced world of the hotel industry, where every interaction matters, few embody the essence of service and leadership like Abby Brooks, Area Director of Sales. With a remarkable career that spans from a humble front desk associate to an award-winning sales leader, Abby has built a legacy of dedication, passion, and an unwavering commitment to her guests and colleagues. Through our conversation, she shared not just her journey, but the heart behind her success—a story of relationships, hard work, and a deep love for the hospitality industry.

When asked what defines her as a person, Abby’s answer was clear and heartfelt: “Being someone others can look up to, whether as a friend, colleague, or client, defines me. I take pride in always being there for others, offering support and guidance whenever needed.” For her, success isn’t just about accolades or sales figures—it’s about the meaningful impact she has on the people around her. Whether it’s providing a comforting word to a stressed guest or guiding her team toward success, she places a high value on human connection.

So, where did it all begin? What inspired Abby to pursue a career in the hotel industry? She fondly recalls her first job as a front desk associate. “I remember the excitement of welcoming guests and making them feel at home. That moment made me realize how much I enjoyed creating positive experiences for people and making a difference in their travels,” she reflects. That spark of joy and fulfillment from helping others led her to commit to a career in hospitality, a path that has shaped her life in ways she never imagined.

Like many who rise through the ranks, Abby’s career journey was one of continuous learning, growth, and hard work. From the front desk to her current role as Area Director of Sales, every step has been a building block. “It started with my role as a front desk associate, where I learned the importance of customer service and relationship-building,”she says. She transitioned into a sales coordinator position, where she honed her skills in sales strategies and marketing, and eventually took on key account management. Her ability to exceed expectations didn’t go unnoticed, and soon, she was promoted to her current leadership role. “Each step along the way was a learning experience, shaping me into the leader I am today,” she says with pride.

As a sales manager, Abby has built a reputation for personalized and strategic sales campaigns that go beyond the usual transactional approach. She explains her method: “I reach potential guests through a personal connection—whether it’s a phone call or email. But the key is to really understand their needs. I tailor every proposal to fit their requirements and ensure their satisfaction, which leads to long-lasting relationships.” To her, success lies not in the sale itself, but in the trust and loyalty she builds with her clients. From thoughtful gestures like sending gifts during the holidays to simply remembering the small details about her clients’ preferences, she emphasizes the importance of staying connected in meaningful ways.

The hotel industry, like many others, is constantly evolving. Abby  has observed several emerging trends, especially in guest behavior. “There’s a growing preference for personalized experiences. Guests are no longer satisfied with a one-size-fits-all approach; they want services tailored to their unique needs, whether it’s customized rooms or personalized activity recommendations.” For Abby, this shift in customer expectations only motivates her to
be more attuned to the desires and preferences of her guests, further enhancing her ability to provide exceptional service.

Recently, Abby received the prestigious “Rookie Director of Sales” award for her region, a recognition that left her deeply moved. “When I heard my name called, I couldn’t hold back my tears. It was a moment that reflected not just my hard work, but also the appreciation of my clients and team,” she says, wiping away a tear as she relives the moment. The award was a culmination of years of dedication, and it reaffirmed her belief in the importance of the work she does. “It was a moment of pride—realizing that my efforts had made a tangible difference.”

For anyone looking to break into the hotel industry, Abby has some key advice: “Be genuinely passionate about hospitality and helping others. Building strong relationships with clients and guests is crucial, so focus on developing your communication and interpersonal skills. Don’t be afraid to seek mentorship and stay adaptable. The industry is always changing, and the more you embrace that, the more successful you’ll be.” Her advice is grounded in her own experience—years of learning, adapting, and growing within the hospitality field.

Looking forward, Abby is optimistic about the future of the hospitality industry, particularly in her role as Area Director of Sales. “As travel continues to evolve, there will be a growing demand for professionals who can connect with clients and understand their needs,” she says. With her experience and dedication, she feels ready to navigate whatever the future holds.

Her journey serves as a testament to the power of hard work, relationship-building, and staying true to one’s passion. Through her eyes, we see the hotel industry not just as a business, but as a space where people connect, grow, and make memories—a space she’s committed to making better for all who enter it.

In Abby’'s own words: "Hospitality is about making others feel valued, whether they are a guest, a colleague, or a client. When you approach everything you do with that mindset, success follows."
