Pigeon Forge, TN — April 2025

Traffic just got a little easier for visitors and locals in Pigeon Forge, thanks to the official opening of the Jake Thomas Connector, a much-anticipated infrastructure project designed to improve traffic flow and accessibility throughout the city.

The new 2-mile roadway provides a direct connection between the Parkway (US-441) and Veterans Boulevard, two of the city’s most heavily traveled routes. This key improvement is already helping to alleviate congestion, especially during peak tourist seasons, and is expected to enhance overall transportation efficiency in one of Tennessee’s busiest tourism corridors.

City officials, residents, and business owners alike have welcomed the addition, citing the benefits of reduced travel time, safer intersections, and improved access to local attractions, lodging, and event venues, including the LeConte Center.

“This connector is a game changer,” said Tracey Martin, Director of the Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism. “It’s not just about cars moving faster—it’s about making the visitor experience smoother and more enjoyable from the moment people arrive.”

In addition to improved traffic flow, the Jake Thomas Connector features pedestrian-friendly elements such as sidewalks and ADA-compliant ramps, reinforcing the city’s commitment to accessibility and walkability. These enhancements allow for safer, more inclusive navigation for all pedestrians, including individuals with disabilities.

The project was funded in part through local tourism tax revenues, highlighting the city's ongoing strategy to reinvest in infrastructure to support its growing visitor population, which exceeds 10 million annually.

Local business owners near the new route have already reported positive impacts. “We’re seeing more consistent traffic and less congestion in front of our shops,” said Linda Hernandez, owner of a Parkway-based souvenir store. “It’s clear that the new road is helping to spread out the flow of visitors.”

With major seasonal events like the Spring Rod Run and summer vacations just around the corner, the Jake Thomas Connector arrives at a crucial time, positioning Pigeon Forge to handle increased traffic with greater ease and efficiency.
