Kuttu Apparels
Kevaughn "Kuttu" Rodney is a young man with so many talents, it was a mystery which one he would pursue in life. As a diaspora Jamaican his zeal for climbing higher alongside his wisdom in art and wide skillset ensured that there was nothing out of reach for him. Bursting with the untapped potential he decided to plant the seed of his first business. A business he views as his firstborn child Kuttu Apparels, a compilation of his talents on display and available to the public.
Rodney has been a creative from a tender age his passion for art derived first from drawing and metastasized within him to even greater heights “I do not remember the age exactly but I remember finding one of my uncle's old sketchbooks
and saw some portraits he did. I was fascinated by the fact that he was able to do such things with a pencil and I immediately tried to copy all the sketches. Not long after, the back of all my notebooks had drawings.”
These fond memories of his uncle's talents and his family being the first to expose him to the universe that exists within his imagination was a moment of revelation for Rodney. This opened up an avenue for a plethora of talents to manifest within him. He gives them the highest praise in his development “They've always been supportive of whatever I'm doing by giving a helping hand or a word of advice.”
The strong family support system has also been the foundation on which his business was built. The name Kuttu is one of the main attention-grabbing aspects of the man himself and the business. This name was lovingly given to him by his mother. He recalls a fond memory of how the name was derived saying “My mother gave me the name from I was a toddler. Apparently, it used to sound she would make repeatedly as she would toss me in the air. It got stuck with me as time progressed.”
Although Rodney credits his family for exposing him to the creative scene over the years in his world his artistic inspiration comes mostly from within himself. It is in solitude he comes up with his greatest creations “I'm most creative when by myself. Ideas come to me in the form of isolated self-reflections which usually surface while doing what I'm passionate about. My passion is with art and nature”
In nature, Rodney has found beauty beyond measure. It is within the environment, the natural state of the earth, and the wonders of the world that he withdraws his primary source of inspiration. It is because of these factors that the age felt compelled to share his artistic vision with the world. Currently, he has a wide range of talents “To name a few; I draw, paint, sculpt, printmaking, write music, poetry and jewelry making.”
He felt the need to urge others to embrace the natural side of life in all ways and it was as a result of this the brand Kuttu Apparels was founded in 2021.

In an effort to share the natural side of life with the world Kuttu Apparels specializes in handmade jewelry, designed to give a vintage look while providing a wide range of clothing options such as t-shirts and more. When asked why he decided that entrepreneurship was the best option for him Rodney emphasized wanting to be the main person controlling his destiny "I'm going to be rich so it's only fair I learn to be my own boss right? That aside, I think it's a great way to create financial stability and generational wealth. Honestly, I don't like to be told what to do so working for the rest of my life was out of the equation.”
Being a creative individual having outside interference in your creative process poses a hindrance to the birth of art. However, this poses no issue for Rodney who has decided to master his own art by creating his own platforms through social media to garner sales and brand awareness.
His determination to live life on his own terms has made him curate his own spaces where his art can be appreciated by the masses. His products are well-loved by a niche group of people that only seem to grow in size daily as orders for his products increase and his recent campaign to raise brand awareness has proven to be effective. Rodney has conducted radio interviews, social media campaigns and the use of traditional advertisement was not neglected with flyers for his business being handed out locally and internationally.
When asked what sets Kuttu Apparels apart from everybody else small businesses the response was glowing and riddled with confidence “The creative thoughts and efforts put behind the continued development plus me are the main factors which set it apart. Every design and crafted jewelry is created originally and tested by myself and a few people for free before it's put on the market.”
Handcrafted designs are made with love. Tested by real people, already loved by real people before being introduced to the market is what Kuttu apparels introduces to a saturated field with people downplaying quality and creativity for an easy profit.
